Descendants of Peter Ransone of Elizabeth Cittie, Virginia and Gloucester County (now Mathews County) Virginia

Through Peter’s son James Ranson of Gloucester County (now Mathews County), Virginia, and James’ descendants in Cumberland and the area that is now Appomattox County, Virginia, Robert, Ambrose etc.

Many members of the Ranson family of Appomattox and beyond are working to verify, correct and add to our family history and genealogy. We appreciate and welcome all contributions of information. We are trying to find more than one source where possible (e.g. old family Bibles compared with census and land deed information.) Because the Appomattox court house burned, we are trying to record all we know and can find out about facts that were lost in the fire.

Our first file includes information gathered at Ranson Reunion, Appomattox, VA, 2009. Persons expressing interest at the reunion, or afterward, are listed below. It is a work in progress. Additions and corrections are most welcome and may be sent to Ruth or Janice Ranson Bryson at janbryson@earthlink.net

Currently Mary Ranson Stevens and her husband Berkley Stevens, Eleanor Ranson Johnson, and Ruth Ranson Caldwell are searching for information in the Appomattox County. Beverley Brooks Ranson is researching in Charlotte County with her son Chad Ranson as she researches connections to the Glovers who owned the land on which she and her husband, Charlie Goodman Ranson live. (Their children are the fifth generation of Ransons to live on that land.) Also Glover-Ranson descendants, Sandra Thackson Best (daughrer of Alice Ranson Thackston) and Doris Wilson Harvey (daughter of Pearl Ranson Wilson) with her husband Albert Harvey have found and photograhed the grave of our common ancestor Mary Ann Flood who was Mrs. John Ranson. Linda and Tommy Ransone ane working on information in the Norfolk area about descendants of Jack Paulette Ranson. Annie Christian Martin Roach , daughter of Mary Willie Ranson, the first Mrs. S. Hubert Martin, is working on Martin connections. Janice Ranson Bryson is recording primary sources and early sources as well as gathering information on recent descendants of Samuel Calvin Ranson and Goodman Henry Ranson. She is charting dates of known occurrences to try to shed light on the mysterious and hard-to-believe tidbits of family history. We hope you will join the fun.

Years ago Emma Lou and Blass Ranson and their son Bill started an extensive listing of their ancestors. Some of their work is included in our first file. Their daughter Janice Ranson Bryson has continued the work over the years. Some of her work will be added as time goes on.
